You’ve probably heard it a hundred times that Soccer drills must be proficient in retaining the player’s interest in the training sessions. As a coach, it is probably one of the most difficult things to do and you must always remain careful that players are not bored without any variety in their training practices.
You must be able to identify the peculiarity between teaching players who are quite senior and the one who is very new to the game. It’s highly doubtful that the young players will take the criticism positively just like the senior players are expected to.
You would certainly not want your team members to be displeased with repetitive training drills every day. So you need to integrate in your soccer practice sessions some activities that are good fun. Well, you must also know that it is assertive training that stimulates excitement and vice versa. For the purpose of player’s continuous interest in the game, it’s best to put them against each other in the team.
We’ll go through a few soccer drills that teach some basic skills like dribbling, balance, and passing in addition to a competitive spirit.
Replace the futile activity of players practicing to put the ball into goals by an activity involving one player competing against another or two players against four to see improved play.
It really helps in soccer training to place one player against other members for the purpose of building up their competitive feeling.
Preferably, put two players against four when it comes to inexperienced players.
The biggest advantage with these soccer exercises is that it teaches the players to strive in a limited practice area, not overwork the ball, and also work as a team.
All you’ve got to do is position the larger number of players around a fictitious boundary of about 30 feet and then situate the two other players in the center. The bigger group of players will then pass the ball to each other while the two players in the middle will try to steal the ball from them. And then the players on the outside allow the ball to get to the players in the middle. Both the players then interchange their respective positions and the other players do the same one by one.
One player playing against another is an enjoyable drill and it also showcases the talent of the players. The reason is that no player wants to look a second best. When competing against each other, their intention is not only to win but also to impress upon their coach.
Here, choose a player as an attacker and another as defender. Indicate a space for them as legroom which is not very large. The player should aim at passing the identified mark using dribbling technique. If he prevails, he wins points but if he fails, these points go to the defender.
